Painting Abstract Art Colours The Right Way

Painting Abstract Art

Painting abstract art is a form of expression used by many creative people. It may not always have one specific form but since it was first introduced in New York in the 60s, it has become a worldwide favorite.

This progressive and upbeat form of expressive art is often found in the background of movies, stand up comedy and TV shows due to its “open to interpretation” concept.

Why is it an Expressive Art?

1. It could mean one thing to one person and something else to another. This allows more to be left to the imagination – and the viewer.

2. Almost every art exhibition, locally or internationally, has some form of abstract art represented. Mostly these pieces command the highest level of admiration. They can sell for between $1000 and multi-millions of dollars.

3. Abstract art is valued because of the artist, the style of painting and many other factors. While the process of painting abstract art can be a highly intuitive one, it takes lots of practice to master it.

4. The entire process of abstract art can be said to be dynamic, physical, emotional and intellectual.

5. To abstract artists, the very art to us is all about freedom and joy. We love the eccentricity, dreamlike quality and fantasy element we can bring to any abstract setting or water colour.

6. As an abstract artist or someone looking to become one, you have to learn how to give your creative intuition free rein. Whenever you start out on any new painting you have to be patient enough to wait to see what emerges.

What is Abstract Art?

7. Producing abstract art takes more than merely putting, painting or pouring colour on a canvas. It involves much more than looking for something within the paint as it incorporates itself.

8. It is a type of intuitive painting; this is what makes the art more abstract in form and control.

Ways to Approach Painting Abstract Art

9. To paint a good abstract art piece, you can start traditionally by copying from life and then progressively moving into abstraction.

10. In reality, all art can be termed as abstract in the sense that it isn’t the actual object itself. Surrealist painter René Magritte realised this when he painted The Treachery of Images in 1929.

11.Those who see themselves as “abstract artists” may indeed be freestyling painting a subject.

12. The easiest way to get started is to just have a go at it. You can start by putting the blurry outlines of the subject on the canvas, and then take your brush or pencil to sketch in the broad shapes and outlines.

13. Naturally, the art composition will unfold itself in time. The shapes will take form and become interesting in and of themselves, without even referencing the original matter.

14. At this stage you can keep experimenting with the composition, adding and subtracting shapes, modifying colour and solidifying lines.

15. You could then follow what draws or pulls you in if scraping, painting over or erasing it doesn’t inspire you.

Use Your Emotions, Get in the Mood

16. Another method of painting abstract art is for the artist to use his or her emotions to get started. Listening to music is one way to enhance your emotions when creating.

17. Being in the right mood can hugely influence the outcome of any sort of creation. This is true whether it’s painting abstract art, writing, composing music or even baking something new.

18. It will also influence the quality and speed with which the artist will apply a paintbrush or palette knife to a canvas, type words, write notes or mix ingredients.

19. The right choice of music can help you choose the right blend of colours, control the movement of your hands, focus your mind and create the ideal content.

20. Often, when someone is feeling some sort of strong emotion, it can be easily, quickly and creatively expressed by colour, line and form.

21. Paying full attention to any composition with complete interest, total focus and energy, will produce the sort of abstract art that everyone will see as amazing.

22. Abstract art, unlike realism; is simply the informal combination of elements.

The artist’s individual signature has to be in there, as just as an author develops their own niche/voice, so also does an abstract painter/artist.
