Hanging Art on The Wall the Right Way

We at A/X Publisher understand that owning a piece of art is a very personal and reflective process, so we are here to help you make the best choices and to guide you using the options below.
Hanging art is as much an art form as the creation itself – Julie J.
Hang/Lean At Eye Level
To give your space an urban feel, you can lean your art or sculpture against a wаll.
If you would prefer pieces to hang on your walls or fence, then the bottom of the artwork (оr іtѕ frаmе) should only be 8-16 inches above your furniture.
You want to position your choice of art so that the piece’s heart is at an eye level.
If you plan to hang multiple smaller artworks in columns and rows, stick to the same principle.
Start from the lowest row and work to the bigger frames, which will help create a unified design statement.
A Color for Every Mood
Choose colors based on the mood you want to set in each room.
For example, pastel and light colors like sky blue and gray are calming, so consider basing your bedroom design or theme on different gradients of these colors.
Yellow sets a welcoming, cheerful mood, so a piece of art with a bright yellow hue is perfect for the living room.
Paintings that scream with red or orange colors are great in a social gathering area, typically the dining or living room, and will spark lively discussion between guests.
Hanging artwork in earth tones looks better towards the patio, balcony, or verandah because it often compliments the garden, green pot plants, or grassy area.
Dark exotic painting does well against light or darker walls, but depending on the type of artwork, black goes well with most walls.
Lastly, we all remember from science class that white is the presence of all colors, but that doesn’t mean white will bring personality to the room. Quite the opposite!
There’s a reason why in general, galleries display their art against white walls – to have you ignore the background and bring focus on the artwork.
So, if you buy a white-themed painting, make sure it hangs on a colorful, eye-catching wall or backdrop.
Design a Room Around a Piece of Art
To begin, find your focal point: Walk into the room and identify where your eyes land first; this is the perfect place for a statement artwork, and you can base the rest of the room’s design around this.
This can be easy as picking out one of the secondary colors in your central artwork and streaming it throughout the room – an accent pillow here and a lampshade there will make it perfect.
The theme doesn’t have to take over the design, but it will help the eye connect all the pieces in the room and create a complementing statement to your layout.
One of our favorite ways to build a theme is through texture.
You can have as many colors or patterns as you like, but if they are in the same fabric or texture, it brings the room together in a subliminal yet effective way.
Remember, you can always use your choice of art to mimic the life of the room.
Put: if the artwork is about food, hang it in the kitchen; if it’s a social scene of friends laughing and having a good time, hang it in the living room. But don’t take it too literally, or else it could get weird fast in the bathroom…
Don’t forget the Bathroom!
On that thought: think of your bathroom as a wet gallery – the perfect place to hang or lean your quirkiest piece of art. And this art piece could be a towel hanger leaned against the wall with a matching mirror.
Get a little adventurous and show your art personality.
Some of the best and quirkiest pop art and comic drawings may seem uncomfortable, but once this initial stage passes, it can be a funny experience and a good thing to look at and admire.
The bonus here is that your guests will get a kick out of the paintings in a private setting and may want to stay there for as long as they want!
Painting Sizes That Matter
The rule of thumb is that a large wall often calls for a larger piece of hanging artwork to cover the space.
However, if the walls have partitions, such as a curtain that divides the space into separate areas, you can place two medium-sized paintings on each wall.
Or, as it appears in this article’s cover photo, hang several small pieces of work to create a huge statement piece.
Your eyes will ultimately feel what it sees, and your senses will be your best guide!
Tools and Pro Tip
The best way to avoid damaging the walls is to use double stickers, or as we call them, “3M stickers”, that usually have the weight listed in the packaging.
Leaning an artwork against a wall on a table or stool is also an option.
Unless you own the property, you don’t need to drill a hole in the wall and risk losing your rental bond.
Asking the handyman or hardware store for assistance can also be helpful.
Finally, paintings of people or human figurines should ideally reside in the southeast friendship corner of the home, according to Feng Shui placements.
However, this is subjective to a person’s date of birth and other household members. It is always best to seek the expert advice of a good Feng Shui master.
The kind of art you choose to display is entirely up to you. However, following the above suggestions, you can show it off to its best.
