The New Eco-Friendly Terracotta Amplifier Without Electricity
This new and innovative creation was invented by a pottery artist from India, Mr. Sivaprakash.
It is slowly gaining popularity as an alternative to conventional speakers due to its unique functionality.
But before we introduce you this great innovation, let’s take a look at his journey from the beginning and the inspiration behind his creation.
India’s Very Own Pottery Artist
Sivaprakash is a talented miniature pottery artist from Kerala. He lives in a village called Aruvacode.
Sivaprakash comes from a family of potters and has been practicing this art form for many years.
He is known for creating intricate and detailed miniature pottery pieces, such as pots, jars, and vases, that are only a few centimeters in size.
His passion started when he was in school and gradually after attempting to work in computers, he followed his father’s footsteps and ventured into pottery over six years ago.
Siva’s work has gained recognition in India and abroad, and he has been featured in various media outlets, including Indian Express.
His miniature pottery is appreciated for its beauty, uniqueness, and attention to detail.
He has stated in interviews that he started experimenting with miniature pottery early on in his career, and it took him several years to perfect his techniques and develop his signature style.
He draws inspiration from the traditional pottery of his region, but also incorporates his own creative ideas and designs into his work.
Sivaprakash’s innovation is the Terracotta Amplifier which is a passive amplifier made entirely of clay.
The Making of Zero Electricity Terracotta Amplifiers
In 2019, when I was working as an apprentice in Pottery training, I made a clay coloumbi (Acoustic Amp) for the first time.
I made this speaker after seeing a bamboo speaker from an exhibition. My curiosity led me to do more research till I discovered there were various models online.
Inspired by it, I started making small sized clay speakers and stereos with my trademark designs.
Gradually finding myself experimenting with different variations, I started making it in the form of an amplifier.
I would later finish them with cane designs and worli art. During the pottery process, as the size and shape of this clay coloumbi (Terracotta Acoustic Amp) changes, the sounds were also different for each one.
All of them are unique and create different acoustic sound waves. This usually gives me great satisfaction and a feeling of accomplishment.
The hollow for placing a smartphone where the sound passes through is the most challenging part of the process and requires precision.
Upon completion, the end product is then ready for painting and coloring.
What is special about it is that it is Eco-friendly and made from natural resources. It’s made on a pottery wheel and it is amplified by the sound of a mobile phone.
I believe I’m helping people reduce the use of electricity this way. This innovation is my legacy as a craftsman and as an artist.
Overall, Sivaprakash’s artistic journey is a testament to his passion and dedication to his craft.
It is truly an indication of the rich cultural heritage of India and the skill and creativity of its artisans.
How does the Terracotta Amplifier Work?
The Terracotta Amplifier is designed to amplify the sound of smartphones and other mobile devices without using any electricity or additional components.
It works by using the natural resonance of the clay material to enhance the sound quality and volume of the device.
It is made by hand using traditional pottery techniques, with a small opening on the top to hold the mobile device.
The shape and size of the opening are carefully designed to ensure the best sound quality and volume.
Siva’s creation not only serves as an innovative product but also highlights the importance of traditional pottery techniques. It shows the potential for combining traditional art forms with modern technology.
He is currently creating these items at The Trivandrum Kerala arts and crafts Village Kovalam in India. Watch the video production below.
